Senator Larry Craig To Resign

David Drake: Larry Craig To Resign

My response to David’s post:

1. If he is guilty and pled guilty, then he should have resigned because breaking the law is not a good example for others to follow.

2. If he is NOT guilty and still pled guilty, then he may or may not have resigned. It’s hard to continue when others think you’re guilty. You spend all your time trying to defend yourself and then no one looks at the good you have done… he did good for Idaho.

So it’s hard to say… in the end, FOR HIM, perhaps resigning was best so he could salvage his marriage and fight any legal battles against the aligations.

For the state and for the nation… I don’t think resigning was necessarily the best thing because he was a good Senator… we just don’t know if he was a good person.

But look at Bill “sex with anything” Clinton… you don’t have to be a good person for people to like you. Hell… every gay man in the nation should be standing up for Craig right now; stains on a dress… stains on another man’s pants… what’s the difference? :o)

David’s response:

I like your take on it, especially your point #2 and the sentences after that: “So it’s hard to say… in the end, FOR HIM, perhaps resigning was best so he could salvage his marriage and fight any legal battles against the aligations.”

I’m glad it’s over and now the Republicans can continue on with apologizing and perhaps resigning for other things they are not guilty of doing. If they keep going down this road, pretty soon we won’t have to worry about them for they will all have stepped down from office rather than fighting.

~~~
In the end… I agree with my original thought and David’s… resigning was probably best for his own personal life.
What angers me is that he is guilty and branded before he’s proved to be guilty. I know he looks guilty because he pled guilty… and that right there is probably enough. But I heard the tapes and it sounds to me that he could be innocent or just stupid.
I don’t know… maybe he is guilty… but there’s doubt in my mind so I can’t say for sure.
Al Gorem: Ring of Global Warming
I cleared my throat one day while saying “Al Gore” during a discussion of the non-“it’s all my fault the earth is warming up and if I don’t give up everything, we’re all going to die in one million years” global warming we’re experiencing and it sounded much like “Golem… golem… hack, cough… golem?” So I found a ring of fire and a gruesome picture of Al Gore and put them together (with amature abilities, obviously and making sure to put my stamp of embarrassed acknowlegement on it) to come up with…
“My preeeeeciouuuus ring of of global warming. I want everyone to know about it and covet it but I won’t let them get too close or they may realize the truth. It’s just a Cracker Jack ring I got when I was twelve years old. Finally after all these years I can get people to do what I say and not what I do… wishing upon falling stars really does work. Hey… maybe I can convince people the end is near because of falling stars… yeah… that’s the ticket.”
No Power Like the Power of Freedom…
President George W. Bush in Kansas City on August 22nd, 2007 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars national convention at the Kansas City Convention and Entertainment Center. This is a transcript of the entire speech… worth reading.
A small portion of the speech is below…
That generation of Americans taught the tyrants a telling lesson: There is no power like the power of freedom and no soldier as strong as a soldier who fights for a free future for his children. (Applause.) And when America’s work on the battlefield was done, the victorious children of democracy would help our defeated enemies rebuild, and bring the taste of freedom to millions.
We can do the same for the Middle East. Today the violent Islamic extremists who fight us in Iraq are as certain of their cause as the Nazis, or the Imperial Japanese, or the Soviet communists were of theirs. They are destined for the same fate. (Applause.)
“The United States Should Not Have a Military” Gerardo Sandoval
Video link broken – keeping post – see comments
This man honestly believes that the United States of America SHOULD NOT have a military! He wants to know what good the military has done for us during the last 5 years.
This video of Hannity and Colmes interviewing San Francisco Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval really brings out the colors of not only Sandoval but also Colmes. Colmes jumps in towards the middle to clarify Gerardo’s statement becoming visibly and verbally distressed and filled with disbelief that this man could say that America should not have a military.
Apparently, per Sandoval, we can use cops and the coast guard to defend America and in a thousand years we won’t need a military.
I tell you what… if this man gets his way, not only will we not have a military, we’ll be on our knees begging for our lives and completely oblivious to what freedom use to be… it probably won’t even be a word.
If we don’t have a military, we can’t defend ourselves against our enemies… and we do have enemies. Can you imagine the boats and planes filled with terrorists coming into America to take over? It would happen the day after we retired our military and the day after that we would no longer be free to walk to the grocery store or drive across town or feel safe going to work.
This man needs to be dismissed from his post and sent to a country that doesn’t care about freedom and individual rights. He clearly doesn’t believe in individual rights… look what he’s done to Michael Savage.
Banned Pres. Bush Interview
I don’t know for sure if this video was actually banned from American television. It’s meant to be a negative video (as I’m sure that was the intention of the person who posted it) because it shows Bush as arrogant and a bit pushy.
I have thought about this a lot and have come to the conclusion that this is one of his more truthful interviews. He cuts the lady off a few times to request to be allowed to finish his answer because she’s too impatient to actually let him answer without interjecting.
I can sense why people would not like the interview and even conclude that our president is very “I” oriented… but truth be told this whole “we can’t be proud of what we’ve done because people will think we’re arrogant assholes” is a bunch of crap.
Be proud of what you have done… stand up and say “I did this and I’m glad I did this and because I did it, this is what has happened”. Don’t stand in some corner sniveling that you think you did okay… be proud or admit your shortcomings.
There were tons of responses below this video the day I found it that were saying Bush was a twat, a fuck up and just bullshit… and that was just in the more recent 9-10 comments.
Why are people so hateful and lash out like that… this makes me think liberals are irrational and have no respect for other’s opinions, feelings or constitutional rights. They would disagree… but the drawing has been painted by them… the artwork is already on display.
How to get rid of the past – Deny it!
What is going on?
What fantasy world are people living in?
How foolish and gullible do these crazy nut cases think people are?
We have people over here saying that the Holocaust didn’t happen… that Hitler wasn’t the monster he truly was. That… what?… someone MADE IT UP?? Do they think people actually stopped eating for weeks, took off their clothes and lay around in the dirt and on top of each other to… what?… create horrible pictures so our country would go to war? That makes a ton of sense… NOT!
Then we have people over there (such as John Kerry) claiming that what happened in Vietnam didn’t actually happen. In this quote, Kerry almost makes it sound as if those who were held against their will in the reeducation camps should be thankful because they are “thriving” in today’s society.
KERRY: … with respect to boat people and killing, everybody predicted a massive bloodbath in Vietnam. There was not a massive bloodbath in Vietnam. There were reeducation camps, and they weren’t pretty and, you know, nobody, you know, likes that kind of outcome. But on the other hand, I’ve met lot of people today who were in those education camps, who are thriving in the Vietnam of today.
WTF? So let me get this straight… 1) no blood baths 2) reeducation camps make better citizens. Just checking.
“Oh I just want to thank my captures for educating me and making my life better!”
Are you kidding?
Sigh… just me feeling the heat of today’s world. How can a person (or a country) turn the other cheek if everywhere they turn to, someone new and less important (with a bigger chip) is slapping them.
eNews from Senator Larry Craig
Here’s the latest eNews I received from my state’s Senator. I have highlighted what I thought was the most interesting. Note how he tells us democrats wanted to deny workers the freedom to vote in secret.
Focus on Freedom
As I watched the Fourth of July celebrations across the State, I was reminded of how much we prize our independence. My own Senate Mission Statement includes personal pledges to work for freedom and liberty. With Congress currently debating the Department of Defense Authorization Bill, the bill that funds the armed forces that help keep us free, and on the heels of Independence Day, I wanted to give you a status report on the ongoing fight for freedom.
The Senate recessed for the Fourth of July after the Democratic leadership forced a vote on denying workers the freedom to vote in secret about the organization of a union. That’s right—they attempted to pass legislation that would have allowed employers and union representatives to monitor and record how each employee voted for union membership. I was proud to stand with the vast majority of workers in opposing this bill, which was ultimately defeated.
Democrats in Congress now propose to deny our freedom of expression by reviving an artifact of the Red Scare, the so-called “Fairness Doctrine.” Bitter over the success of conservative radio, they hope to use government censors to force radio stations and other media outlets to give equal time to opposing views.
The fight for freedom doesn’t stop with our civil liberties. Democrats hope to curtail our economic freedoms by raising taxes—including a tax on death itself. I aim to free us from the complication and unnecessary burdens of our tax system with a flat tax.
Finally, the fight for freedom in Iraq goes on—and frames the debate over the Department of Defense Authorization bill. As Abraham Lincoln once wrote, “Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves”. As we await the results of the surge in Iraq, I maintain that success is possible. In the meantime, I will not deny the Iraqis their chance at freedom—though I cannot force them to embrace it.
Wow… I really found this straight forward and right to the point.
UK Removed The Holocaust from Curriculums
This is an email I received today called Memorial.
“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
Edmund Burke
In Memorial
Recently this week, UK removed The Holocaust from its school
curriculum because it “offended” the Moslem population which
claims it never occurred. This is a frightening portent of the fear that is
gripping the world and how easily each country is giving into it.
It is now more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe ended.
This e-mail is being sent as a memorial chain, in memory of the
six million Jews,
20 million Russians,
10 million Christians
and 1,900 Catholic priests
who were murdered, massacred, raped, burned, starved and
humiliated with the German and Russia peoples looking the other way!
Now, more than ever, with Iran , among others, claiming the Holocaust
to be “a myth,” it is imperative to make sure the world never forgets
This e-mail is intended to reach 40 million people worldwide!
eNews from Senator Larry Craig
More than likely, this is a form letter sent out to everyone who sent a letter or email to my State Senator, but I’m glad to get the response. Included is information I didn’t know because I just can’t spend 29 hours a day keeping track of what’s going on… nor would I want to.
Letter from Larry Craig, U.S. Senator (it was addressed personally to me, but I have removed that information, if you don’t mind).
July 5, 2007
Thank you for contacting me regarding immigration reform. I appreciated hearing from you and apologize for the delay in my response.
On June 28, 2007, the Senate failed to obtain the 60 votes necessary to cut off debate on the comprehensive immigration reform bill, S. 1639. That halted any likely future progress on this legislation for the duration of the 110th Congress.
Although S. 1639 was by no means a perfect bill, it was a vast improvement over previous reform measures. The American people demanded that certain provisions be included, and they were. These demands included triggers requiring successful installation of border security measures before other programs come into effect, English language requirements, employee verification systems, and provisions that would force illegal immigrants to leave the country and submit an application before achieving permanent legal residency. In addition, the bill would have required that currently undocumented individuals seeking temporary legal status maintain employment, pass a background check, pay fines and their back taxes, and forego any Social Security benefits tied to payments they made into the system while working illegally. Americans were, and still are, adamantly in support of these policies, as am I.
Despite the inclusion of these popular provisions, the vote in the Senate demonstrated that many Americans do not trust the federal government to enforce these ambitious programs. In the end, that is probably what brought the bill down.
Unfortunately, because of this outcome, no problems have been solved, and the dysfunctional status quo remains. Communities in Idaho, and across the country, will still face the problem of undocumented workers who take advantage of our broken legal immigration system. Idahoans sent me to Congress to solve problems, which is why I voted to limit debate on the bill. Had sixty votes been cast for cloture, the Senate would have voted on several more amendments, including additional measures to strengthen border security, before a final up-or-down vote on passage of S. 1639.
Despite the outcome, I remain open to other proposals to solve the problems of illegal immigration and an outdated, flawed legal immigration system. In particular, I will use my position on the Appropriations Committee to fund strong border enforcement measures, as I have done in the past. I will also continue to search for a solution to the serious labor shortages plaguing the U.S. agricultural community.
My first priority is, and will always be, the hard-working men and women of Idaho and their families. Protecting our homeland security and the safety of our people is the fundamental responsibility of the government, and I will continue to support policies that protect and benefit American citizens, treat immigrants fairly, and preserve our economy, resources and national security.
I kept an online floor journal during the final debate on the bill to let folks know my reasoning behind each vote. You can view the journal at http://craig.senate.gov/journal_immigration.cfm. If you have specific questions about these or any of my other votes on the immigration proposal, please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you again for contacting me.
Sincerely,
LARRY E. CRAIG
United States Senator
The Day of Operation America Rising
I went to my state’s version of Operation America Rising. There weren’t as many people as we hoped would be there but since it went from 11am until 5pm, people came and went as they pleased. I was there from about noon until 2pm… and then it was just too hot for me to stay longer.
Here are all the pictures I took. There were flags representing Desert Storm, the Vietnam Vets, the Army, POWs and many others. It was quite colorful!! :o)
I recently cancelled my cable so I don’t know how much news coverage it will end up getting. Channel 7 was a sponsor, so I’m assuming it will get some mention.
Operation America Rising
I happened to be out and about today and the store I was visiting was next to the local military recruiting office. They were closed of course, since it’s the 4th, and on their door was a flyer for Operation America Rising (broken link).
“Operation America Rising” Will take place on 7-7-07 all over America. On that momentous day, there will be prominent speakers and entertainers. Children and adults will be gathered together saluting America’s finest. This national salute to our troops will be a gleaming observance of America’s patriotism. People of all ages will show our troops that we are behind them. You can donate to this wonderful event on this site by volunteering or contributing.
This was the first time I had heard about this. Mind you, I don’t watch tv much and my only news is from on-line or the radio. I do hear about things each day, but this one escaped my knowledge. Am I just out of touch or has it truly NOT seen much news coverage?
I looked up my state and sure enough we’re having a big rally in down town. It’s not actually at the capital but it’s at the Veterans Memorial Park. Some of the states don’t seem to be participting while others don’t seem to have much information listed.
Will this really be as big as they hope? I plan on going… at this point. I must because I feel that my voice is just a whisper that isn’t heard much at all. In order to say “this is what I feel”, I must speak louder and go where others go to make myself heard.
Happy USA Day
What the July Fourth Means to Me ~ by Ronald Reagan
I truly liked Ronald… he was a great father figure to me. At the end of this quote there is another quote by Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari speaking of the price of liberty.
Lets hope he’s right.
The Lyrics to this song are below and the bold words are that of a little girl missing her father. I listened… and read… and cried.  Follow the link to listen to the song.
Heaven 911
It’s been a year daddy
I really really miss you
Mommy says you’re safe now
In a beautiful place called heaven
Oh I’m thinking about our younger years
We had your favorite dinner tonight
There was only you and me
I ate it all up
We were young and wild and free
Even though I don’t like carrots
Now nothing can take you away from me
I learned how to swim this summer
We’ve been down that road before
I can even open my eyes
But that’s over now
While I’m under water
You keep me coming back for more
Can’t you see me?
Baby you’re all that I want
When you’re lying here in my arms
I’m finding it hard to believe
We’re in heaven
I started kindergarten this year
Love is all that I need
And I found it there in your heart
It isn’t too hard to see
We’re in heaven
I carry a picture of us In my Blue’s Clues lunchbox
Oh once in your life you find someone
You are the greatest daddy
Who will turn your world around
Pick you up when you’re feeling down
Now nothing can change
what you mean to me
I can swing on the swing by myself
There’s a lot that I could say
But just hold me now
Even though I miss you pushing me
Cause our love will light the way
Can’t you see me?
Baby you’re all that I want
When you’re lying here in my arms
I’m finding it hard to believe
We’re in heaven
I miss how you used to tickle me
And love is all that I need
Tickle my belly
And I found it there in your heart
My belly hurts
It isn’t too hard to see
We’re in heaven
I try not to cry
I’ve been waiting for so long
Mommy says it’s okay
For something to arrive
For love to come along
I know you don’t like it when I cry
Now our dreams are coming true
Through the good times and the bad
You never wanted me to be sad
I’ll be standing there by you
I try Daddy but it hurts
Baby you’re all that I want
Is it true you’re not coming home?
When you’re lying here in my arms
Maybe someday
I’m finding it hard to believe
We’re in heaven
I can visit you in heaven, okay?
And love is all that I need
And I’ve found it there in your heart
It isn’t too hard to see
We’re in heaven
It’s time for me to go bed now
I sleep with the light on
Just in case you come home
And kiss me good night
I love you so much
I miss you Daddy
The $50 Presidential Bet
My boyfriend and I have a bet. He thinks H.C. will be the next president and we’ll all have to get use to calling her “madam president”. He does not favor her and does not want her to be president… he just thinks people will be fooled, and I quote, “we’ll have yet another First Lady Clinton”. Uh… that was referring to Bill, in case you didn’t catch it.
I am being the optimist and saying she will not be the next president. Sigh…
I really don’t know. I do think that many people will vote democrat just so they don’t have to vote republican.
The two parties are so much different than I remember when Ronald Reagan was president. I remember my step-dad claiming he voted democrat because they were for the “little guy”. They aren’t like that now. They try to pretend they are by pointing fingers at the republicans in an attempt to take the eyes off themselves. They want everyone to have the right to do anything they want so long as it doesn’t interfere with the underlying desires of that party.
What would they do if green peace had to fight a gay black man who wanted to marry an illegal immigrant while standing on the only land where an endangered animal or plant lived… and one of them was wearing a shirt that said “Global Warming is Bullshit” and the other said “Down with Bush”. I suppose the guy could be making a sexual preference comment, but we’ll assume it’s talking about our president.
Which right would they go against in order to gain control so that everyone lined up with what they wanted?
The republicans, I thought, were to help keep America strong in its footing in the world. Keep us powerful and keep our enemies at bay. They are the rational party… the party that doesn’t find another thing to change just to keep everyone guessing. They are the party for consistency. Now they just bow to the desires of the democrats because they fear the American people want what he democrats offer.
Well, hello! Of course many Americans want what they offer… they offer EVERYTHING with the option of everything changing tomorrow to suit the fact we have to add something else to the pot.
It’s insane.
eNews from Senator Larry Craig
I get email from our State Senator and in today’s “enews” letter he spoke of Immigration Reform. Here is the link: Imigration Reform Update (broken link)
What it says:
“One thing is certain in this hungry world: no regulation or law should be allowed if it results in crops rotting in the fields for lack of harvesters.” None other than Ronald Reagan uttered these words.
We can all agree that people must not be allowed to enter the United States illegally, and those who have done so must be held accountable. Our laws must be enforced vigorously. The 1986 immigration law brought us to where we are today because it had no teeth.
Although not perfect, the White House/Senate proposal just debated did have teeth, and it contained elements I will continue to favor in any immigration reform. I continue to believe those here illegally should not get “amnesty,”—there is no free pass for transgressions. They should pay fines, learn English and meet many other stiff requirements to qualify for temporary legal status. To apply for a green card, they should be forced to wait until the current backlog is cleared—no jumping ahead of those who followed the rules. But none of these reforms should commence until certain border and internal security standards are met—security remains our first priority.
One thing we can all agree on in this debate—the status quo does not work. I am working to solve this problem, because I believe that’s what the people of Idaho elected me to do—to solve problems instead of ignore them.
I like what he had to say. I wonder if this response was due to all of the emails and phone calls he must be receiving. Hell… even I sent one.
An interesting page from his site is called Fact or Fiction. Here he addresses rumors to let us know how true or untrue they are. For instance, he speaks of Illegal Immigrants and Social Security… E-Mail Tax… Contressional Retirements… NAFTA Superhighway… Law of the Sea Treaty… and Security and Prosperity Partnership. These were just the ones added in the last two days. I haven’t found an archive as of yet.
Vote Smart: A warning to all women about H.C.
How could she not know what her husband was doing when her back was turned? In the type of relationship they had at that time and with all the possible ways to know things (ie media, employees, etc) how could she not know?
There are times when a person doesn’t know their husband/wife is cheating… but it seems obvious to me that they had an arranged marriage… a marriage where you do what you want so long as the other doesn’t get hurt. He broke that rule. You can’t do these types of things when you’re in the spot light and expect everyone else to say “that’s okay… they agreed on it”. Did they agree upon rape? Did they agree upon him ruining his career and hers along with it?
This arranged marriage is white trash and embarrassing to us as a nation. Why don’t they go back to being ordinary, boring citizens so they can do these types of things? Oh yeah… they’re too well known for that, huh.
