Monopoly – Democracy to Socialism to Communism

Today my son learned about three different societies: Democracy, socialism and communism. His economics teacher had a special monopoly game planned for the class.

When they started, the society was a democracy and the game played with the normal rules. Everyone could buy, sell or trade properties, including railroads and utilities. When they passed GO, they collected $200 and could gain a bonus amount by landing on Free Parking.

My son decided to trade for a railroad so that on his next turn, he could trade it to another kid who had the other three railroads. After everyone had build up their fortunes a bit, the teacher came over and proclaimed they were now playing socialist monopoly. All railroads and utilities were taken over by the government and thus anytime anyone landed there, they paid the government. When they passed GO, they collected $150 and landing on Free Parking got them nothing.

Things continued along and my son decided to compile his money into mostly $500 dollar bills… so as not to have so much cash. After a bit, the teacher came over again and declared it to be a communist society and all properties were controlled by the government and they seized all $500 dollar bills (lol). Everyone paid the government for landing anywhere on the board. Each player collected $100 for passing GO and was allowed to remove one property that used to belong to them so as to lower payments in the future. The only people protected from owing the government any money were those in jail. How ironic.

Eventually, the teacher came over and declared that the people overthrew the government and it was now a democracy again. Everyone distributed properties but not necessarily what they had before turning communist.

End of Game.

The lesson: the teacher explained that societies often start out as democracies and over time, turn to socialism and then eventually, right into communism. He said that our society is currently somewhere between a democracy and socialism right now because the people are not completely in control but instead share the control with the government.

YouTube Communist Monopoly

My Opinion:

Our country is leaning more and more towards socialism as the government steps in and takes over different aspects of our society. They use the guise of bailing our citizens out of crisis after crisis. Often… truth be told… our government not only causes the crisis… but plots them out years in advance in order to gain more control of the people and take more away from us.

Do we really have to go through hundreds of years of these different forms of societies as my son’s teacher suggests may happen? Are we really so short sighted that we can’t see what’s happening before our very eyes? I think it could happen just because the average person (me included) doesn’t really know how one or two items can really change our society. “We’re just giving up a little bit of our freedom… just a tid bit of our rights… it’s no big deal”.

Really? No big deal to give up our rights so the government can become a looming force in our country? The government was created to protect the people… not control them. And NO… protecting me from my own mistakes is not a necessity of my government. Get out of my head, heart, home and family.

Obama Dis’s US Military Troops

Obama decides not to visit our US troops in Germany because he felt the visit would be considered a campaign event. His apparent reasons for going to visit them originally was to show his “appreciation” for our troops.

I agree fully with Brian Rogers, a spokesman for Senator John McCain who said “Barack Obama is wrong. It is never inappropriate to visit our men and women in the military.”

Why was it appropriate to visit the combat support hospital in Baghdad? What made this trip to Lundstuhl Regional Medical Center off limits? What’s up with this bull about “not” going out of respect for the servicemen and women stating it “would be inappropriate to make a stop to visit troops at a U.S. military facility as part of a trip funded by the campaign.”

Oh… and to those people who think going to visit our military troops is just a “photo-op”… shame on you. There may be some politicians out there who think like that but it’s funny how so many liberals have to say something bad… anything bad… about the Republican party, even if it contradicts what their own candidate does. If Obama WENT to see the troops, they would say he was a hero… if Obama DOES NOT go and states it would be abusing them, they would say he was a hero. Where do you stand? Is it a good idea to show respect to those who stand up and fight for your country or not? You can’t have it both ways.

I say that it’s a good idea to visit our troops, especially if you’re already there. It doesn’t matter if it’s a democrat, republican, independent, libertarian… it just doesn’t matter. If you are there and you have the clearance… you should go. If I were there and I had the ability, I would go. It’s easy to say that because more thank likely, I would not be permitted… but if I could… I would go!!

What’s worse than Obama?

I found these great videos on YouTube of Jackie Mason on the subject of Obama’s flip flopping, his use of the race card and the Obama Press Club.

Obama’s Flip Flops ~ Wow… is there anything that Obama has NOT flip flopped on? Iran is not a threat yet somehow they are a great threat. Sending in 20k troops would not work yet sending in 30k will somehow make it all good. He is not to be trusted.

You Better Not Mention Obama ~ “Obama is trying to win this election through your silence”. If we mention Obama in a negative way, we are chastized and told we’re racists. He’s a liar but bringing it up to him is wrong… he turns it around and says “how dare you”. Jackie Mason calls him a fake and fraud and says he will say it because this is still a free country whether Obama likes it or not. I agree… Obama is trying to change this country into a place without freedom and WHEN he loses he will claim it was a rigged election… and “how dare we” not elect him.

Obama’s Press Club ~ Amazing how the press mentions hundreds of wonderful things about Obama and express so many bad things about McCain. McCain has become a bad word while Obama is somehow the greatest cult leader in the world. Ooops… did I just call Obama a cult leader? How do we get our voices heard… buy a newspaper or radio station. How free are we?

Use, Save and Replace

The more they push… the more I resist.

They’re stupid… the ones who insist that we (the people of America) conform, tolerate and bow down to their ideals of what is “right” for people (as a whole… not as individuals) and what is best for those who are not even human.

I am human… and I BELONG on this planet just as much as any other creature… any plant life… any rock or sand found on the beaches. This is my planet and I will not move off of it.

I do not dump garbage in the forest… I do not let the water run for 10 minutes while I brush my teeth… I do not waste, kill or otherwise harm the environment. On the other hand… I am HUMAN and I exist on this planet with just as much right as anything else. I have the ability to use, save and replace what needs replacing… don’t tell me I can’t live my life.

We, as Americans, are generally cleaner, friendlier and are able to see into the future and know that the tree we plant today will help twenty years later. We don’t thrash through our resources and then stand around wondering what to do… we use… save… and replace.

And stop telling me we need to change our country to be like other countries… have you looked at how they are falling apart?

Rant over…

Professional Wrestling vs Presidential Election

You know how everyone finally realized that professional wrestling was fake… and fixed? Have we figured out yet that the presidential election is pretty much the same?

They jump around on stage jabbing at their opponents, slamming them on the ground and giving them the choke hold… for what?

Appearances, that’s all.

I have always stood up to anyone who says it doesn’t matter if they vote or not because it won’t count… I’m beginning to wonder if that’s truly the case.

Political Frustations

During the past month and a half there have been moments when I heard this or that which caused me to want to comment. Then I bring up my computer to make those comments and one of two things happens. Either I have forgotten the punch line or I get this sick feeling in my gut that makes me angry at what’s happening just about everywhere.

I’m ill to my stomach when I hear the media… I’m ill to my stomach when I hear people say how bad this president is… I’m ill to my stomach when I have to defend my beliefs or ideals… I’m ill to my stomach when I hear the talk-show hosts that I like have to do and feel the same way.

Someone said they didn’t think a president and his cigar was as important as another president making false claims to lead us into a pointless police action. I just don’t know what to say. I do believe that these two presidents did different things but a “pointless police action”? I suppose only history will determine the outcome.

The thing that upsets me is that this person is taking two extreme sides and comparing them. There were plenty of horrible things Clinton did besides using his cigar in an inappropriate manner to compare to our current president. So why take these two things an compare them? Probably to show how good Clinton was and how horrible Bush is. If a comparison is to be made… lets looks at apples to apples… not apples to elephants.

If not English, then what?

I received this email today and decided to check it out on Snoopes to see what the “official” word is on the facts.

Snopes states that the numbers are a little wrong and that one person is missing from the list. It also shows some interesting percentages at the bottom of the article.

33 Senators Voted Against English as America ‘s Official Language June 6, 2007

On Wed, 6 Jun 2007 23:35:23 -0500, “Colonel Harry Riley USA ret” wrote:

Senators,

Your vote against an amendment to the Immigration Bill 1348, to make English America’s official language is astounding. On D-Day no less when we honor those that sacrificed in order to secure the bedrock character and principles of America . I can only surmise your vote reflects a loyalty to illegal aliens.

I don’t much care where you come from, what your religion is, whether you’re black, white or some other color, male or female, democrat, republican or independent, but I do care when you’re a United States Senator, representing citizens of America and vote against English as the official language of the United States

Your vote reflects betrayal, political surrender, violates your pledge of allegiance, dishonors historical principle, rejects patriotism, borders on traitorous action and, in my opinion, makes you unfit to serve as a United States Senator… impeachment, recall, or other appropriate action is warranted.

Worse, 4 of you voting against English as America ‘s official language are presidential candidates: Senator Biden, Senator Clinton, Senator Dodd, and Senator Obama.

Those 4 Senators vying to lead America but won’t or don’t have the courage to cast a vote in favor of English as America’s official language when 91% of American citizens want English officially designated as our language.

This is the second time in the last several months this list of Senators have disgraced themselves as political hacks… unworthy as Senators and certainly unqualified to serve as President of the United States.

If America is as angry as I am, you will realize a back-lash so stunning it will literally rock you out of your panties.. and preferably, totally out of the United States Senate.

The entire immigration bill is a farce… your action only confirms this really isn’t about America ; it’s about self-serving politics… despicable at best.

Never argue with an idiot; they’ll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.” ~ anonymous

Bush Bashing to the Left

The more things change…

You know, EDUCATION, if you make the most of it, you study hard and you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in IRAQ.

~John Kerry~

The more they stay the same.

“You don’t have money to fund the war or children, but you’re going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president’s amusement”.

~Fremont Democratic Rep. Pete Stark~

I wonder how everyone who bitches so blatantly about the way the president is dealing with the war would do better? What if Al Gore were president when the planes hit… or Hilary Clinton… or Pete Stark… or all the other people in the country who apparently think they can do better.

Not just politicians… actors and artists and the neighbor across the street. I hate it when people bitch but have nothing constructive to offer up as an alternative. There are several people who want to be president and I wonder how well they will do in comparison.

I wouldn’t wish that position on anyone I care about… or even thoughts I don’t.

Violence Down in Baghdad

Did you know that the number of dead bodies reported by the morgue in Baghdad has been about 10… compared to 40 or 50 per day? Did you know that this proves there is less terror and killing in Baghdad? Did you know there is a reduction in overall violence due to increased U.S. and Iraqi security? Did you know that extremists are sitting back and watching to see what we do and how we are going to do it?

Did you also know that if we suddenly pull everyone out that all of the above will change… that violence and death will sky rocket?

Just thought I would mention it. Of course, if we keep it the way it is and don’t surge again with more, they will probably get used to what we have there now and things will go backwards anyway.

Let Us Rebuild Our Symbols of Freedom

Let Us Rebuild Our Symbols of Freedom
Written by Jill
September 25, 2007

Symbols of freedom
come from places unexpected.
From moments of sorrow or pain,
from shock and disbelief…
found deep inside the human mind.

How can we remain strong,
if we do not rebuild.
How can we show our resolve,
our determination,
and our undaunted desire
to be free of terrorists –
if we do not rebuild.

They take from us what “they” feel
is our reason for existence.
It was not the buildings,
nor the planes.
It was not the money,
nor the challenge to our pride.
It was the audacity –
the audacity to take
the lives of those we love,
of those we knew not;
of those whose heroic names
go down in history –
from that dreadful day called 911…
to the fight for our freedom
still going strong today.

There will be no more trusting
of men who demand,
nor men who feel we are weak.
We are not weak –
but we are a country of uncertainty;
uncertain of whom to trust,
uncertain of how far to go,
and uncertain of our foothold
in the world.

We are powerful
but we are now more careful.
We are caring
but we are now suspicious.
We are empathetic
but we are not sympathetic.
Those who took from us
the lives of our citizens…
want a holy war –
a war to end days –
a war to bring about their own prophecies.

We have prophecies of our own,
but we do not hasten them.
We do not wish them to happen sooner.
We do no kill…
in order to gain favor with our god.
Our country is great
but our citizens can not agree;
and our leaders find, ironically,
that they can not please us all.

Symbols of freedom
come from places unexpected –
from moments of sorrow or pain…
Let us rebuild –
Let us take back what is ours –
Let us find comfort in our lives once more.

More Men Like Petraeus

What are the democrats and Lefties so upset about? Lets take a look (read the two posts before this one to get a better view).

Ever notice how those who have no name to the rest of the world have to attack those whose name stands out in the minds and hearts of others? Usually, great accomplishment in a person’s life brings that person recognition and, in some cases, fame. If you don’t have the time or talent to actually DO SOMETHING with your life to get that same spot light… what better way to get it shining directly in your face than to attack someone already there? You won’t get it if you praise them or send fan mail… nope… you have to bring them down and bury them alive.

Petraeus calls for gradual drawdown

He would pull some troops out of Iraq now and reach pre-‘surge’ levels next summer.
By Julian E. Barnes, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
September 11, 2007

WASHINGTON — — Delivering a much-anticipated assessment of the military buildup in Iraq, America’s top commander there, citing improvements in security, recommended Monday that the U.S. start withdrawing some troops later this month but not return to pre-“surge” levels until next summer at the earliest.

Army Gen. David H. Petraeus said he would send home a force of about 2,200 Marines this month, and he recommended that an Army brigade of about 3,500 return home in December. But Petraeus advised keeping the remainder of the buildup forces — four brigades and two Marine battalions — in Iraq through July.

An Open Mind For A New Army

I found this article today… it’s worth reading. It’s two years old, I realize, but history is still history even if it’s personal history.

USNews and World Report

An Open Mind For A New Army
By Julian E. Barnes

10/31/05

I have an image of David Petraeus burned in my mind. It was just days after Baghdad had fallen to American forces, and Petraeus, the commander of the 101st Airborne Division, had joined other leaders of the division at a memorial service for two soldiers who had just been killed.

Before the service, I had overheard the battalion sergeant major reprimand a noncommissioned officer who had been shaken deeply by the deaths. His face was reddened with emotion, and that reaction, the sergeant major told him, was unacceptable. “Your soldiers need to see a stone face,” the major told the NCO. Emotion is distracting; safety depends on soldiers staying focused on their jobs. Still, it seemed an inhuman command.

The exchange was still playing through my mind as my eyes scanned the seats at the service and found Petraeus. He wore the stone face; even in this tragic moment, he exuded calm and control. Yet the sadness, too, was unmistakable. It was clear in the way his eyes wrinkled at the corners and his mouth tugged downward. This was not the pure stoicism of the sergeant major. Here, I thought, was a man who knew leaders must inspire confidence but who also knew that human feelings cannot be denied.

It’s exactly this sort of paradox that animates the work and leadership of Lt. Gen. David Petraeus, the American commander who for the past 15 months led the training of the new Iraqi security forces. Petraeus is one of the most fascinating people in the United States Army. With a Ph.D. from Princeton University, he is often referred to as the military’s warrior-scholar. He has drawn deeply from his dual backgrounds to create a leadership style that is at once of a piece with military tradition, yet is at the same time innovative.

The armed services are among the few institutions in this country that focus relentlessly on developing leaders and improving leadership. The military’s fiercely hierarchical structure is designed to identify the best leaders at each level and push them upward. Officers are expected to mentor those below them, and soldiers must periodically return to school to study how to better lead.

Smarter soldiers. In his 27 months in Iraq, Petraeus has been asked to lead a division into battle, to oversee the reconstruction and governance of Iraq’s third-largest city, and to build up, from virtually nothing, Iraq’s Army and police force. As Petraeus’s varied roles show, Iraq has deeply challenged the soldiers who serve there, sometimes forcing them to perform duties far different from those they trained for. As a result, the Army has come to believe that teaching its soldiers how to think is as important as teaching them how to fight. “There is a very clear recognition of the importance of fostering flexibility and adaptability in leaders,” says Petraeus.

Petraeus has been at the forefront of this evolution in thinking; indeed, there are few more flexible leaders in the military today. The general credits the Army’s field training for teaching him to be a creative commander. But his adaptive thinking also comes from his work outside the military. At Princeton, where he earned his advanced degree in international relations, he had a chance to interact with exceptional scholars, many of whom had a very different view of the world and of human nature. The resulting debates provided insights and lessons that could be applied to the modern battlefield. “The truth is not found in any one school of thought, and arguably it’s found in discussion among them,” he says. “This is a flexibility of mind that really helps you when you are in ambiguous, tough situations.”

Hypocritical Moveon.org

My Vow: I will never visit Moveon – those who publish and push it are the equivalent of a mischievous, malicious “fake” friend that turns on a dime to leave a “friend” in the dust.

My thoughts: If General Petraeus had testified to the benefit of the Left and the Democrats, they would have praised him and held him up on a pedestal. I think it’s foolish of the democrats to sit by and not come to his aide and it will, in the long run, only prove to show how hypocritical and one-sided they are no matter who goes against them.

It’s much like Bob being Jim’s best friend and doing anything for him… UNLESS… Jim does not have the exact same beliefs and ideals; and when it’s proved that he does not… the “fake” friend, Bob, turns his back on his friend and whips around lunging a knife into Jim’s back. This is what the Democrats and the Left seem to do more and more… “if you’re not one of us… then you are our enemy”.

~

News today:

CNN – President Bush today condemned the recent MoveOn.org advertisement that described Army Gen. David H. Petraeus as General “Betray-Us,” voicing disappointment that leading Democrats had not denounced it as well.

USA Today — The Senate voted Thursday to condemn an advertisement by the liberal anti-war group MoveOn.org that accused the top military commander in Iraq of betrayal. The 72-25 vote condemned the full-page ad that appeared in The New York Times last week as Gen. David Petraeus, the top military commander in Iraq, testified on Capitol Hill. The ad was headlined: “General Petraeus or General Betray Us? Cooking the books for the White House.”
