Sucker Punch – a 9/11 poem

Please view the previous post for my other poem written a few years ago. This is the newest one written today and it outlines a bit of what happened that day (for me) and my thoughts then and now.

Sucker Punch

Alarm
of another
day,
groggily
rising to
shower,
wandering
around to
finish
up for work.
Freezing
before the
television;
it must be
a mistake, an
unbelievable
scene. No
preparation
from my parents,
no one
ever
warned me
this could
happen.
What is it
that they
said, terrorists
have attacked
for vengeance
sake.
A blanket
assault
on all
Americans,
on the
innocent,
on the
unaware;
a fool’s revenge,
a blind
attack;
a sucker punch.
