Ronald Reagan’s Landslide Election

Example of a landslide election… and it wasn’t in 2008.

President Ronald Reagan gives a thumbs-up to supporters at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles as he celebrates his re-election, Nov. 6, 1984, with first lady Nancy Reagan at his side. Reagan’s win over Walter Mondale, 525 to 13 in the electoral vote and 59 percent to 41 percent in popular votes, was unquestionably a landslide election.

And now the left who has said for years thet the electoral college is a fraud is claiming an electoral landslide?
They just can’t pick a side can they?

  2. Jill says:

The liberal left picks and chooses which parts of history they wish to believe, which parts they will erase from the books and which parts they will simply change to their benefit.

I often wonder just how many history books have been damaged by their movements.

Reagan was the first truly GREAT President of the 20th Century.

He ended the Cold War by ratcheting up our confrontations with the former USSR (in El Salvador, in Nicaragua and in Afghanistan) and he ended Keynesianism here at home.

Sure, keynesianism imploded under Jimmy Carter, but it was Reagan who ushered in Supply Side policies, paving the way for Newt Gingrich to actually CUT the federal budget in 1995 for the first time since WW II!

Ironically enough, it was his own VP (George Bush Sr) who would return us to keynesian policies (albeit tepidly and briefly) becoming only the second post-WW II American President to preside over 4 straight years of double-digit Misery Indexes.

Sadly, George Bush Jr., after initiating some Supply Side tax cuts early on (an across the board income tax rate cut AND a Cap gains cut from 20% to 15%) and engaging in the global War on Terror (WoT), has been as keynesian as his Dad….those are that families proclivities. After all, it was Bush Sr. who called Supply Side policies "Voodoo Economics."

In the 1970s Richard M Nixon had engaged in tax hikes, wage & price controls and other keynesian measures, dutifully follwed by Ford and Carter….now we're seeing a similar situation unfold.

G W Bush has been a largely keynesian President and he now hands the reins over to a Liberal keynesian (Obama), with a liberal/keynesian Congress in power.

I'd expect the SAME results we had under "ol' Jimma Carter" – huge double-digit Misery Indexes (the unemployment rate and the inflation rate added together – Carter's averaged 16.2 over his four years) – under the Obama administration.

    We'll see.

    Who'll be Reagan in 2012?

Better yet, who'll be Gingrich in 2010?

  4. Arc says:

Well said, further, it was Carter who set the stage for Reagan and Clinton who did the same for Gingrich

You're right on both counts…I wonder who Barack Obama will set the stage for?

I'm hoping for a return of Newt…the ONLY man to have ever successfully led Congress to CUT the federal budget.

While I wouldn’t mind Newt coming back in, I won’t hold my breath for it… The problem with holding the moral high ground is that when you slip up you are branded a hypocrite.
Because liberals never set any standards they get a pass on all morality issues.
When conservatives run afoul of moral issues they are cast under the bus by fellow conservatives, republicans at large, democrats, and liberals. We won’t even touch on what the media will do to them.
As a result Newt is politically dead, great man he may be, he failed to live up to the standards that the media puts on all conservatives.
Personally I think it is the media’s way to keep truly qualified people out of national politics.
